PRAGUE - June 29, 2021 - Canon Europe today announced the launch of the 14-35mm F4L IS USM RF Lens, which offers the shortest focal length of any RF lens. The novelty is the latest in three light and compact RF lenses with an aperture of f / 4, which together provide photography enthusiasts and professional photographers with a universal range of focal lengths from 14 to 200 mm. The 14-35mm F4L IS USM RF lens with quiet autofocus, 5.5 EV optical image stabilization and a 14-35mm focal length range delivers sharp, clear images thanks to aspherical and very low-scatter elements. It is ideal for photographing landscapes and architecture, but also for creating vlogs, where the author needs a stable wide angle of view.
The RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM is another addition to Canon range of high-end RF lenses built on the solid foundations of the EOS R. Combined with innovative camera bodies, all RF lenses offer unrivaled optical performance and open up new possibilities for photographers and filmmakers. Using the communication interface of the RF bayonet, the system can use combined image stabilization in the lens and in the body of compatible EOS R series cameras. With the Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6, it achieves 7 EV while maintaining autofocus and full control - a practical, high-performance solution for photography and film. Compact lens with a wide angle of view Thanks to the large bayonet diameter of the EOS R system, the RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM lens with its compact optical system achieves a wider angle of view and high image quality. Weighing in at just 540g, the RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM ranks alongside the lightweight compact RF 24-105mm F4L IS USM and RF 70-200mm F4L IS USM lenses, which form a trio with f / 4 aperture and focal length range distance for all common photographic needs. Like the other two lenses in this trio, it has a thread for 77 mm diameter filters and is very compact. The whole set is therefore the ideal travel equipment - small, light and with a wide range of shooting options from different perspectives. The wide focal length range of the RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM lens gives photographers considerable flexibility - they can capture various types of objects and scenes, including landscapes and architecture. Thanks to the focusing system with a movable rear group, the lens features an unrivaled minimum focusing distance of 0.2 m and a magnification of 0.38x. This is a significant advantage especially in cramped spaces, where it helps the photographer to fit the whole scene into the image. Perfect optics The 14-35mm F4L IS USM RF lens is based on an advanced optical design with three very low scatter (UD) elements and three cast glass aspherical elements - one of which is both aspherical and UD - based on Canon 50 years of experience with research and development of aspherical optical elements for cameras with interchangeable lenses. These elements, which are the result of extensive investment in optics research and development and in high-precision manufacturing technology, have a non-spherical curved surface that concentrates light into a single point. This reduces aberrations and ensures perfectly sharp images with image quality at the level of Canon renowned fixed focal length lenses. These features ensure maximum resolution over the entire image area, which is especially challenging for wide-angle lenses, as spherical distortion increases significantly. In addition, the lenses are coated with special SWC and ASC coatings developed by Canon. These prevent the formation of "veils" and reflections, and the RF 14-35 mm F4L IS USM lens achieves exceptional sharpness and contrast.
Reliable professional performance for photography and film The RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM has all the advantages of L-series lenses, which guarantee consistent and precise results when shooting and filming. Focusing by moving the rear group of optics allows you to focus at a short distance and reduces the change in focal length when focusing to less than a third compared to the EF 16-35mm f / 4L IS USM lens. The Nano USM motor blades quickly, smoothly and quietly. The f / 4 aperture remains unchanged over the entire focal length range, so exposure and sensitivity do not change during zooming. The 14-35mm F4L IS USM RF lens is also an indispensable tool for filmmakers using the EOS R system, as it guarantees 5.5 EV and up to 7 EV optical brightness and up to 7 EV when used with Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 bodies. consistent image quality throughout the video. For photographers, the advantage is the ability to take photos by hand, even at very long times. The RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM is equipped with a control ring that allows you to quickly directly control exposure, aperture and sensitivity without having to enter the camera menu or exit the viewfinder. Furthermore, the lens has a permanently active manual focus ring and its robust construction is insulated against dust and moisture, just like all L-series lenses. This allows photographers and filmmakers to work in all conditions without any worries.
RF 14-35 mm F4L IS USM - main functions and features:
High quality ultra-wide angle lens with a focal length range of 14-35 mm. Constant aperture f / 4 for shooting in low light conditions 3 aspherical members and 3 very low scatter (UD) members, one of which is both aspherical and UD, ensure maximum resolution over the entire image area 5.5 EV or 7 EV optical image stabilization when used with a body equipped with internal stabilization (IBIS). The Nano USM motor ensures fast, smooth and quiet focusing ideal for video recording. The control ring allows direct adjustment of time, aperture or sensitivity. The shortest focusing distance is 0.2 m at 0.38x magnification. Nanostructured SWC coating and ASC (Air Sphere Coating) anti-reflection coating prevents glare and haze that degrades image quality.
